The test is based on immunochromatography (antigen–antibody interaction). If Group A streptococcal antigen is present in the extracted specimen, it binds to colloidal gold nanoparticles coated with anti-Group A streptococcal antibodies. The resulting immune complexes migrate by capillary action and are captured in the Test zone (T) by another set of specific antibodies, forming a visible colored line. A Control line (C) must appear in every valid test and confirms correct procedure and reagent function

Specimen type:

Swab from the surface of the tonsils and/or the posterior pharyngeal wall (oropharynx).

Patient Preparation

Immediately before sampling, the patient is not recommended to rinse the mouth/nose or use antiseptic sprays, as these actions may affect the test result.

Collection technique

1.Use a tongue depressor / medical spatula to press the root of the tongue down.
2.Gently insert a sterile swab into the oral cavity without touching the oral walls or tongue.
3.With rotating movements, collect a swab from:

• both tonsils,
• palatine arches,
• posterior pharyngeal wall.

4.Remove the swab without touching the tongue, oral cavity walls, or teeth.
